What are Fiberfills?

Fiberfill, or fiberfills, are usually produced from polyester and similar materials. By definition, it is a synthetic material that is used for padding and insulation in garments and soft furnishings. So, essentially, it is chunk of softened and battered fibers that is typically used for many applications, such as padding or stuffing. It can be used in such products as:

  • pillows
  • blankets
  • stuffed animals
  • bedding

It is also used as interior lining for winter coats and other cold weather clothing. And it is a great material for leggings. Even buildings make use of the material, as some buildings' floor and roof insulation contain fiberfill because it is resistant to insect pests and does not spark allergic fits. Fiberfill offers people with optimal comfort, while still maintaining its integrity after extended usage. It is widely available and, due to its prevalence, is usually affordable. And materials that are made from fiberfill are normally safe for home washing and drying, which only adds to the convenience of the material.

How is Fiberfill Lamination Performed?

Fiberfill is made from fibers of polyester being fed through a machine called a garnet. This machine combs and prepares the fibers for packaging. After the fibers are cut and hashed into smaller pieces, they are usually bagged and then inspected before commercial distribution. Some manufacturers do not garnet their fiberfill to make it softer and more flexible.

Fiberfill Lamination is done by either gluing or stapling the fibrous material around the object being covered. Cushions and bedding typically have thick coverings of this material for extra comfort. Gluing is more often recommended for lightweight objects while stapling is recommended for heavier and larger objects.
